This 14 night safari will offer you an opportunity to combine the wondrous Victoria Falls, magnificent wildlife and untamed wilderness of the South Luangwa National Park and the tranquility and beauty of Lake Malawi.
Camps making up the itinerary include;
- 3 nights at Waterberry Lodge in Livingstone & the Victoria Falls
- 3 nights at Kafunta River Lodge in South Luangwa National
- 4 nights at Lion Camp in South Luangwa National Park
- 4 nights at Kaya Mawa Camp on Lake Malawi
Day 1 – Arrival in Lusaka off your international flight
MEET AND GREET; Upon arrival at Lusaka International Airport, you will be met and greeted by a representative from Imagine Zambia Tours. Please look out for your names on a name board as you enter the terminal building.
Our representative will assist you through passport control and will also help you getting your luggage and clear customs. You’ll later be shown to the Domestic Departure lounge for your onward flight to Livingstone; passengers are required to check in at least 60 minutes before departure.
On arrival at Livingstone airport, you will be met by a representative/driver from Waterberry Lodge and who will then transfer you to the lodge where you be spending 3 nights during your stay in Livingstone.
Day 1 to Day 4 – Waterberry Lodge
Waterberry is a small and friendly lodge situated in a breath-taking secluded position on the banks of the spectacular Zambezi River with excellent views of the Zimbabwean park on the opposite bank. It is a perfect place for a holiday that requires a visit to the Victoria Falls and an enjoyment of the various activities found in Livingstone.
Waterberry’s comfortable rooms are in thatched cottages set in different locations; some are set around sweeping lawns, some on the river bank and others looking their own secluded private dam which has beautiful birdlife. All the en-suite rooms have their own decks for sunbathing, birdwatching, private dinners or just relaxing.
There is a lot to do at Waterberry Lodge and some of the activities on offer include visits to the Vic Falls, cruises on the Zambezi River, fishing, canoeing, visits to Livingstone museum and town to mention but a few. Livingstone also houses a good number of adrenalin activities for the most adventurous which can be booked in advance such as bungee-jumping, whitewater rafting, micro-lighting etc.
Day 4 – transfer from Waterberry Lodge to Livingstone Airport
Depending on the departure time of your flight out of Livingstone, you will at some stage on this day, be transferred from Waterberry Lodge to Livingstone airport for your flight to Mfuwe via Lusaka.
On arrival at Mfuwe airport, you will be welcomed by a representative/guide from Kafunta River Lodge who will help with your luggage and transfer you to Kafunta Lodge which will be your home for your first 3 night’s safari in the Luangwa valley.
Day 4 to Day 7 – Kafunta River Lodge
Kafunta is a classic Zambia safari lodge and combines all the essentials when going on safari. Here you will find the rest and peace you need after an exciting safari day in combination with personalised service and a warm welcome by the camp’s team. Highly qualified safari guides will take you on exciting game drives and walking safaris, and share their extensive knowledge of the African bush with you.
At Kafunta, each of the luxury private chalets and the main lounge/dining area overlook the game rich flood plain. Beyond the plain is the Luangwa River and one of the best game-viewing areas of the magical South Luangwa National Park. The lodge has 8 private safari chalets all of which are built on raised wooden platforms and thatched roofs. They were all refurbished at the end of 2010 and they are tastefully decorated with African style and charm. There are 2 additional luxury suites each of which features an upstairs viewing veranda and luxurious bathroom.
Central to the lodge is the spacious lounge and dining area that has been thatched in the traditional style. Here is a welcoming camp fire place which is lit every evening and guests and guides meet around the fire to share the latest stories of wildlife encounters or, simply listen to the sounds of the bush.
Kafunta River Lodge has its own pontoon 5 minutes from the lodge and this adventurous river crossing takes you into the more remote areas of the park, giving access to extraordinarily good wildlife encounters. We are also a short game drive from the main gate 10 km giving access to the abundant game viewing of the Mfuwe sector. The early morning hours are ideal for a game drive or alternatively a walking safari can be arranged. During your afternoon game drive we stop for sundowners in the bush to fully experience the magnificent African sunsets. You continue with the drive in the dark which allows you to spot nocturnal animals.
Day 7 – Transfer from Kafunta River Lodge to Lion Camp
After your 3 nights stay at Kafunta River Lodge you will be transferred to Lion Camp which is on the other side of the Luangwa River, deep inside the South Luangwa National Park – this will be your home for 4 nights.
Day 7 to Day 11 – Lion Camp
You will start your unforgettable Luangwa safari from the comfort of the Lion Camp, and spend your 4 nights exploring the areas around Lion Camp by open 4-wheel drive vehicle.
Lion Camp is a stylish, unique and independent lodge accommodating up to 18 guests. It is located in one of the best game viewing areas of the South Luangwa National and away from other lodges and camps, which means that you are likely to enjoy your South Luangwa safari without many other guests or vehicles around. The lodge looks out onto open grassland which is frequented by grazing mammals during day time, and becomes a hunting ground for lions by night.
Accommodation at Lion Camp will be in luxury canvas and thatch chalets which are built on raised wooden platforms. All chalets are linked to each other and the main area by a raised wooden light boardwalk. The chalets have either four poster king side double beds or twin beds, each with a walk in mosquito net. They are all en-suite with showers and toilets, and each has a private deck overlooking the open plain in front of the lodge.
Besides morning drives and walking safaris, you will also go on afternoon/evening game drives. The game drive usually takes about 3 to 4 hours. Sundowners are usually served at around sunset along the Luangwa River, giving you clear views of the African sun as it sets after which, you continue with your game drive in search of nocturnal animals. This will return after dark in time for dinner.
Day 11 – transfer from Lion Camp to Mfuwe Airport
Depending on the schedule of your flight, you will be transferred from Lion Camp to Mfuwe Airport for your flight to Likoma Island on Lake Malawi via Lilongwe.On arrival at Likoma Airstrip, you will be welcomed by a representative/guide from Kaya Mawa Lodge who will help with your luggage and transfer you to Kaya Mawa Lodge which will be your home for your last 4 nights on this memorable safari.
Day 11 to Day 14 – Kaya Mawa Lodge

From the construction and the staff to integration within the local community, there is literally nowhere else like it.
Kaya Mawa Lodge sits on the shoreline at one of the most beautiful points on Lake Malawi. This is undoubtedly one of the best places in Africa for a beach safari. Kaya Mawa first opened in 2000 after a six year building project. In 2008 the lodge was bought by Nick Brown and James Lightfoot, closed in 2009 for a complete rebuild and reopened in 2010.
Each room is individually designed in partnership with Katundu Textiles, a workshop set up on the island to empower single mothers. All the workforce come from the neighbouring villages and have been trained on site. The result is a uniquely stunning lodge with a feeling of contemporary rustic whilst ultimately chic. Day 15 – transfer from Kaya Mawa Lodge to Likoma Airstrip
On this day, you will be transferred from Kaya Mawa Lodge to Likoma Airstrip for your flight to Lilongwe where you will catch your international flight out of Malawi.
This is the end of your safari in Zambia and Malawi but we will still be in touch with you to make sure that your travel back home was well and safe.
